Title: Hybrid Symposium “Decolonial Curatorial Agenda for a Green New Deal” <Strike Museums: What will be (Post)Anthropocene Art and Museums> by Juhyun Cho and Jiyoung Kim

This hybrid symposium “Decolonial Curatorial Agenda for a Green New Deal” <Strike Museums: What will be (Post)Anthropocene Art and Museums> uncovers deep and enduring connections and entanglements between European 'world culture' museums and colonialism that contributed to the environmental crisis, and addresses the intersections of racism, extraction, consumerism and subjectivization—the museum's interrelated history—with the continuing climate crisis.

As concerns over climate breakdown have grown, many museums around the world have been forced to confront their own complicity in the environmental crisis. The separation of nature and culture; the marginalisation of Indigenous voices; the prioritisation of progress narratives and unlimited economic growth: museums have contributed to all these phenomena and more. In this light, they are seen as a paradigmatic apparatus of the Anthropocene, one of those ‘material practices of duration and arrival that brought this world into being’ as Kathryn Yusoff puts it in A Billion Black Anthropocene or None. The key point, as Yusoff highlights, is that for a ‘certain proportion of the world, the entire dismantling of this colonial apparatus is a desired state’ – a recognition that ‘launches a call for a different kind of world making’.

What would it mean for museums to become active agents in the project of worldly repair? What obdurate histories and modes of practice would they need to overcome, and who should get to play a role in this collective reimagining? This  symposium aims to provide a critical cartography of possible museum worlds in and beyond the Anthropocene. Building on urgent calls to decolonise and decarbonise cultural institutions globally, penalists and participants of the symposium will share insights from ongoing work that aims to reimagine and reform museums to help shape a more just and sustainable future for the planet.

In this hybrid symposium, both the presenters and the audience become the panelists, and the discussion takes place on an equal footing.

본 하이브리드 심포지엄 “그린뉴딜을 위한 탈식민적 큐레이토리얼 어젠다” <Strike Museum : (포스트)인류세 시대 예술과 뮤지엄은 무엇인가?>는 환경 위기에 기여한 유럽의‘세계 문화' 박물관과 식민주의 사이의 깊고 지속적인 연결과 얽힘을 밝히고 인종 차별, 추출, 소비주의 및 주체화 등 서로 밀접한 관련이 있는 박물관의 역사가 계속되는 기후 위기와 교차되는 지점을 다룬다. 

기후 위기에 대한 우려가 커지면서 전 세계의 많은 박물관은 환경 위기에 기여한 그들의 책임에 직면할 수밖에 없었다. 자연과 문화의 분리, 원주민 목소리의 소외, 진보적 이야기의 우선순위 지정과 제한 없는 경제 성장 등 박물관은 이 모든 현상 너머의 더 많은 불의에 기여해 왔다. 캐서린 유소프(Kathryn Yusoff)는 자신의 저서 『10 억명의 흑인을 위한 인류세이거나 아무것도 아니거나(A Billion Black Anthropocenes or None)』에서 “이 세계를 존재하게 한 지속과 도래의 물질적 관행” 중 하나가 박물관이라고 정의한 바 있다. 유소프의 요점은 “세계의 많은 지역에서는 이 식민지 장치의 완전한 해체가 바람직한 상태” 즉, “다른 종류의 세계 만들기에 대한 요청”에 대해 인식해야 한다는 것이다. 이렇듯, 박물관은 인류세의 패러다임적 장치로 볼 수 있다.

박물관이 기존의 세계를 보수하는 프로젝트에 적극적인 주체가 된다는 것은 무엇을 의미하는가? 그들이 극복해야 할 완고한 역사와 실천 방식은 무엇이며, 누가 이 집단적인 이미지를 재구성하는 역할을 담당해야 하는가? 드리프팅 커리큘럼(Drifting Curriculum)의 본 심포지엄은 인류세 안에서 또는 인류세를 넘어서 가능한 박물관 세계에 대한 비평적 지도제작법을 제공하는 것에 목표를 둔다. 세계적으로 문화 기관들의 탈식민지화와 탈탄소화에 대한 긴급한 요청을 바탕으로 발표자와 토론자들은 지구의 보다 정의롭고 지속 가능한 미래를 만들기 위해 박물관을 재상상하고 개혁하는 것을 목표로 진행 중인 작업에 내재된 통찰력을 공유할 것이다.

Title: Poetry Workshop, Boseon Shim

Proposal: Poetry Workshop

This workshop has two goals. Firstly, it aims for the participants to approach poetry without mental barriers that would make people think poetry is too difficult and sophisticated to read and write. By using and combining any words from the books or papers available during the workshop, this collective effort turn poetry writing into a playful game where participants contribute to finishing a piece of poem. Secondly, the poetry workshop aims to give participants to write about their personal or collective experiences and memories. Writing poetry is a way of re-experience and re-collect people’s memories and feelings, which can challenge the taken-for-granted common senses to provide fresh or even critical interpretation of particular events and relationships among society, nature, and human beings.  

Methods :

• Form working groups for poetry writings

• Select words from books, documents, or any written materials available during the workshop (these sources of words can be provided by organizers or prepared by participants)

• Group members write poems by combining words and phrases

• Read the finished poems in front of other groups and share and discuss the poems

시 창작 워크숍

시 창작 워크숍은 두 가지 목표로 진행됩니다. 첫째, 참여자로 하여금 시가 난해하거나 지나치게 세련된 문학 장르라는 마음의 장벽을 거두고 시에 다가가게 하는 것입니다. 자신이 소지하고 있고 평소에 읽는 책과 문서에서 적절하다 판단되는 단어들을 자유롭게 골라 조합하는 참여자들의 적극적 노력은 시쓰기를 누구나 참여할 수 있고 작품의 완성에 기여할 수 있는 즐거운 놀이로 변모시킬 것입니다. 둘째, 시창작 워크숍은 참여자로 하여금 자신의 개인적인 혹은 집단적인 기억들을 글로 써서 표현하는 기회를 마련하고자 합니다. 시쓰기는 기억과 감정을 다시 경험하고 반추하는 하나의 방법이기도 합니다. 이는 사회와 자연, 사람살이에 대한 기존의 당연시된 상식과 편견에 도전하면서 우리가 막연히 알고 있는 특정 사건들을 다시 생각해보는 비판과 해석의 시간을 제공할 수 있습니다.

방법:

• 시쓰기를 위한 팀을 구성합니다

Title: Dataset for Retracing, Forking Room and Unmake Lab (Min Hyung Kang, Binna Choi, Sooyon Song)

Dataset for Retracing

This lecture/workshop aims to connect dataset and disaster. Dataset is a pile of data for AI learning, in other words, there are various datasets to create AI vision that ‘understands’ things. This workshop takes dataset out from computer science process, and rather makes them artistic archiving that is poetic and sensible. If we make AI learn the idea of disaster, what kind of dataset-ing (the act of creating dataset) will be possible? And what are metaphors will be? The most personal memory about disaster will be retraced. How should we name speculative dataset?

이 워크숍에서는 데이터셋과 재난을 연결해 본다. 데이터셋은 인공지능 학습을 위한 데이터의 더미라고 할 수 있다. 즉 대상이 무엇인지를 ‘이해하는’ 인공지능의 시각을 만들기 위해 다양한 데이터셋이 존재한다. 이 워크숍에서는 이러한 데이터셋을 컴퓨터 과학의 과정에서 끄집어 내어, 보다 시적이고 감각적인 예술적 아카이빙으로 만들어 본다. 만일 재난이라는 개념을 인공지능에게 학습을 시킨다면 우리는 어떠한 메타포를 통과하여 데이터세-팅 (데이터셋을 만드는 행위)을 해볼 수 있을까. 재난에 대한 가장 개인적 감각을 더듬어 만들어질 이 사변적인 데이터셋은 무엇이라 이름 붙여 볼 수 있을까.

Title: The Catastrophic Coastlines Shaped by Others, by Chih Chung Chang.

Proposal:

The Catastrophic Coastlines Shaped by Others In the end of July, 1653, Dutch explorer Hendrick Hamel, after his stay in Batavia (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Taijoan, Formosa (Tainan, Taiwan), continued his journey on VOC’s ship De Sperwer to Nagasaki, Japan. However, on 16th of August, a storm sank the ship close to the coastline of an island named Quelpaert. Hamel and a few seamen survived the shipwreck and were later taken by the islanders to their ruler. The island Quelpaert is known as Jeju today, and after publishing his journal of this unexpected journey in 1668, Hendrick Hamel is also considered the “Dutch Marco Polo” to firstly introduce Joseon Empire in Korean history to the Western world. In southwestern coastline of Jeju, the touristic Hamel Ship Exhibition Center was established in commemoration of this history. A real-size copy of De Sperwer is also rebuilt and exhibited there, while an intriguing fact is that Hendrick Hamel's name remains little known to the Dutch society nowadays. Outlying islands are prone to state a special role, as part of the witness of colonization, occupation or any forms of disaster, however, the distant yet marginal remains also become either significant or neglected between the paradigm shifts. In this art session, we will start with the visit to the Hamel Ship Exhibition Center, and from here, by introducing and uncovering several associated, important historical cases inside or beyond Jeju and nearby islands along the western Pacific from a foreigner (Taiwanese)'s point of view, we hereby focus on the reshape and reimagining of island subjectivity through shared memories and geopolitical catastrophes.

Title: Becoming Stones, by Yunjoo Kwak and Hwan Jin Cho.

Proposal:

The interdisciplinary workshop Becoming Stones aims to explore the delineation between life and non-life on the basis of stones through filmmaking process. Stones are archives that are not of a closed past, but active agents in the present, as well as offering potential future narratives. How can these stones be used as a narrative device to re-tell broader historical and social movements that revolves around the idea of disaster, and to further the futuristic narrative? Filmmaking process involves gathering archives, documents, images and sounds, testimonies, arguments, and memories. Imaginative engagement with that which has been rendered invisible is also fundamental to visual materialisation of the idea of disaster. The workshop will focus on relationships between discourse and making, and being and becoming, and material and spirit.

Jeju Island was formed by volcanic activity which began about 1.8 million years ago and continued sporadically until about 4-5000 years ago. Halla Mountain, the only mountain in Jeju, is the highest in South Korea at 1947 meters above sea level, and it stands in the centre of the island as visible testament to Jeju’s volcanic history. Some 360 volcanic cones called ‘Oreum’ arise across the landscape of Jeju. Together with Halla Mountain, they make up Jeju Island: Jeju has risen from the middle of ocean, a nation of stone and wind.

Stones have structured Jeju’s ecosystems and its islanders’ lives. There is no nutrient-rich soil in Jeju – the landscape is volcanic rock – which makes it a challenging environment for farming. Tenaciously, Jeju people have ploughed this infertile land, picking out stones to cultivate the soil. Most stone walls in Jeju are built by hand, drystone: stacking one stone atop another without mortar or plaster to bind them. There are gaping holes and spaces between the rocks. Walls look as though they could topple over at any moment, but in fact they rarely collapse. It was hard work to remove all the stones from the fields to start farming, and most islanders settled around the Oreum, where there was an abundance of the stones that were used to construct villages and towns across the island. From prehistory to the present, people here have been optimizing local, natural and human resources to organize their living and working space – not only the rural communities who are deeply rooted in the elemental, but also professionals in the construction industry. Jeju’s stone walls mark the origins of pre-historical architecture, the central axes of ecosystems, demarcations of farmers’ lands, traces of mankind’s survival in a barren environment, sustainable practices.

Participants are encouraged to collect their findings as materials from the series of lectures and field trips offered by Disaster Haggyo to the filmmaking. We will explore the historical, architectural and aesthetic aspects of stone particularly in relation to the context of 4.3. uprising and will build a Bangsatap 방사탑 collectively which will be instructed by stonemason, Hwan Jin Cho (Head of Dolbitna School of Art Incorporated).

PROCESS

• WHAT TO PREPARE BEFORE THE WORKSHOP: collect audiovisual materials in advance. Document images & sounds & texts from the series of lectures and field trips and write down your observations, thoughts, speculations, and feelings that are going to be elements of the film.

* Participants need to bring their own iPhone or android phone to film

• Each group members will take a role amongst cinematographer, narrator (writer), and maker/ editor. A single person can take multiple roles.

• A technical advisor will guide you how to edit a film. A video editing tutorial session will be provided.

Disaster Haggyo 2022: 비커밍 스톤즈 Becoming Stones

학제간 워크숍 비커밍 스톤즈 (Becoming Stones)는 돌을 기반으로 하여 생물과 무생물의 경계를 영화 제작 과정을 통해서 탐사해보자한다. 여기에서 돌은 닫힌 과거가 아닌 현재의 능동적인 주체이자 잠재적이면서 미래적 서사를 제공하는 아카이브로써 기능한다. 이 돌들이 어떻게 재난을 둘러싼 더 넓은 역사적, 사회적 운동을 다시 들여다보고 미래적 서사를 발전시키는 내러티브 장치로 사용될 수 있을 것인가? 영화 만들기의 과정이란 아카이브 수집, 증언, 논쟁, 기억 등의 모든 요소들을 내포한다. 비가시적이 되버린 상상적 연대하기는 재난에 대한 관념을 시각적으로 물질화 시킬 수 있는 근본적인 요인이다. 이 워크숍은 담론과 만들기, 존재와 생성, 믈질과 영혼 사이의 관계에 초점을 맞출 것이다.

제주도는 약 180만 년 전에 시작되어 약 4~5000년 전까지 산발적으로 계속된 화산 활동에 의해 형성되었다. 제주도의 유일한 산인 한라산은 해발 1947m로 대한민국에서 가장 높은 산으로, 섬 중앙에 우뚝 솟은 제주 화산의 역사를 가시적으로 보여주는 산이다. 제주의 풍경을 가로질러 360여 개의 오름이 솟아있다. 한라산과 함께 제주도를 이루는 돌과 바람, 제주도는 바다 한가운데서 솟아났다.

돌은 제주의 생태계와 섬 주민들의 삶을 구성해왔다. 제주에는 영양이 풍부한 토양이 없고 화산암이 있는 지형으로 농사를 짓기 힘든 환경이었다. 제주 사람들은 이 척박한 땅을 집요하게 갈고 돌을 골라 흙을 경작해왔다. 제주의 대부분 돌담들은 석고나 모르타르 없이 손으로 쌓아가는 드라이스톤 (drystone) 방식이다. 돌의 돌의 사이에는 틈들이 있어서 언제라도 무너질 것처럼 보이지만 실제로는 거의 무너지지 않는다. 농사를 짓기 위해 밭에서 돌을 모두 치우는 것은 몹시 고된 일이었고, 대부분의 섬 주민들은 마을과 마을을 건설하는 데 사용되었던 돌이 풍부한 오름 주변에 정착해왔다. 선사 시대부터 현재까지 이곳 사람들은 지역, 자연 및 인적 자원을 최적화하여 생활 및 작업 공간을 구성해왔다. 원소에 깊이 뿌리를 둔 농촌 지역 사회뿐만 아니라 건설 산업의 전문가도 포함된다. 제주의 돌담은 선사시대 건축의 기원, 생태계의 중심축, 농경지의 경계, 황폐한 환경에서 인류가 살아남은 흔적, 지속 가능한 실천을 증명한다.

참가자들은 재난학교에서 경험하게 될 다양한 강연, 현장답사의 과정에서 획득한 즉각적인 자료들을 영화 제작에 대한 자료로써 적극 활용할 것을 권장한다. 특히 4.3의 맥락과 관련하여 돌의 역사적, 건축적, 미학적 측면을 탐구함과 동시에 관계맺기를 시도해 볼 것이다. 돌빛나 조환진(돌빛나예술학교장)의 지도 아래 방사탑을 쌓아보는 경험을 하게 된다.

Title: Gapado Island Film Screening and Garden Project, by Sojung Jun and Jungju An.

Proposal:

Automatic Autonomy (2020), a video piece by An Jungju + Jun Sojung, was created from imagining Deoksugung Palace as a remote island in the middle of a sea of skyscrapers and billboards in Seoul. The palace, surviving the decline of Jose Dynasty in late 19th to early 20th century, was the very site where Korea lost its diplomatic sovereignty to Imperialist Japan by signing the Japan- Korea Treaty of 1905(“Eulsa Treaty”). Under the influence of Western Modernism, the palace became a blend of traditional wooden structures and Western architecture. Today, Deoksugung Palace borders the city hall plaza, frequently seized by heated protests and marches of part-time laborers, far-right “Taegukgi”rallies, pride parades, and conservative religious group. At once, the palace represents the past and present and the hardship and prosperity of the Korean people. Automatic Autonomy is a “recording” of Deoksugung Palace throughout a camera attached to a dancer’s autonomously and freely moving body. Mixed with this recording is footage from the palace surveillance cameras that act as eyes of Deoksugung Palace, witnessing and recording history. Capturing trivial moments such as a duck floating in the pond, and insect flying towards light, and sunlight spreading throughout flower petals, the cameras become the subject artistic creation for An Jungju + Jun Sojung. With the disharmony of an accordion and a sanghwang(traditional reed instrument) playing in the background, the imagery delivered through these cameras superimposes a mechanical and automatic perspective with a sensual and autonomous gaze. The remixed scenes in Automatic Autonomy represent the speed of cultural change and contradiction as well as a sense of entropy. Moreover, the images evoke the severed past and the voices, values, and landscaped that were forgotten with it. The Ghost in the Machine could be considered by some a theatrical situation, one in which the museum becomes its stage. The scene consists of makeshift stage structures, objects, CCTVs, and an AI drone that cruises through the structure at designated time slots. These parts are similar to muscles, blood vessels, and the intestine, all of which are organs that symbolically lie beneath the skin of the body of the museum. Timed movements of these objects reveal a substance beyond the visible―swaying film strips reflect and penetrate light to create a visual illusion on the museum wall; the air pocket plummets to the ground and creates echoes within the space; the fog machine reveals the volume beneath the transparent skin of the sculpture lying on the floor; linear materials flutter in the wind from the fan visualizing the dynamic motion; the speaker amplifies the echoing sound of oxygen that sustains a small ecosystem. The materiality of immobile objects, such as their volume, tactility, and sound are continuously transferred into other senses, constructing a temporal and spatial dimension filled with a multi-sensorial experience. The gaze of the CCTV and the AI drone observing these movements offer an experience in a different dimension. In this work, the audience inevitably is positioned as the passive other because they have to simply watch what is happening on stage from the outside. Yet, the perspective of these machines is based on different speeds, heights, and angles, making it possible for them to transcend the visual-perceptive capacity of humans. As a result, the images recorded and transferred by these machines allows the audience to have access to the interior of the structure, otherwise unapproachable to the naked eye. As such, by extracting and transmitting images between structures and objects, the machines guide us into a world beyond the limits of recognizable time and space. On the one hand, the machines send us images pushing us to realize the perceptive limits of humans; on the other, they demand us to mobilize our dormant senses to join the race on a newly paved, unpredictable path.

두 편의 영상 작품 (2020)와 (2021)을 스크리닝 하며 작품에 대한 이야기 를 나눌 예정이다. 더불어 가파도에서 진행중인 정원 프로젝트에 관한 간략한 내용을 소개한다.

정원 프로젝트

 정원 프로젝트는 가파도 글래스 하우스 앞마당에 다양한 식물을 가꾸고 생장과 적응을 관찰하며 바람의 움직임과 빛의 변화 등 생태적 순환을 느낄 수 있도록 하는 정원 작업이다. 해녀들의 도구인 테왁을 고정시키는 나뭇가지로 쓰이는 순비기나무는 바닷가 돌 틈이나 모래땅에서 덩굴처럼 퍼져 자라며, 물 속에서 숨을 참고 물질을 하다 물 위 로 올라오면서 내는 숨소리인 ‘숨비소리’로부터 그 이름의 유래를 찾을 수 있다. 줄기를 만들어 곧추 자라 꽃을 피 우는 달맞이꽃은 가파도에서 해풍에 잘 견디도록 옆으로 자라난다. 이처럼 정원 프로젝트의 식재들은 환경에 적응 하는 자생식물뿐만 아니라 귀화식물, 외래식물이 혼재되어 있는데 이는 국내 어느 지역보다 유입경로가 다양하고 관광객의 증가 및 개발 확대에 직면한 가파도와 제주도의 지정학적 맥락과 맞닿아있다.

정원 프로젝트는 정원의 공간으로 인간과 비인간 존재들을 초대하며 생태적 공생에 관한 질문들을 싹틔운다. 정원 은 다양한 식물종과 곤충, 미생물 등 생태가 순환하는 공간이자 사유를 가꾸는 장소가 되어 제주도와 가파도를 바 라보며 떠올린 자연의 변화나 환경 위기, 이동과 거주, 기술과 생태학, 지질과 기반 시설의 역사를 가로질러 구축 하게 될 사변적 서사, 문제들과 함께 하는 예술적 상상력과 실천을 위해 마련된 장소가 된다.

스크리닝

<오토매틱 오토노미> (2020)는 고층 빌딩과 광고판으로 둘러싸인 서울의 현대적 풍경 한가운데 외딴 섬처럼 떠 있는 덕수궁의 이미지를 떠올리며 만들어졌다. 덕수궁은 19세기 말~20세기 초 조선 쇠망의 목격자이자 일본에 외교권을 빼앗긴 을사조약이 체결된 현장이다. 서양 근대의 수용으로 전통 목조건축과 서양식 건축이 어지럽게 공 존하는 이 곳은 과거와 현재, 분노와 희열을 동시에 품은 채 비정규직 노동자, ‘태극기 부대’, 퀴어퍼레이드, 보수 종교단체가 격렬하게 충돌하는 시청 앞 광장과 맞닿아 있다.

 <오토매틱 오토노미>는 무용수의 신체에 부착된 카메라를 통해 자율적이고 능동적인 몸의 움직임으로 덕수궁을 기록한다. 또 목격자이자 기록자로서 덕수궁의 눈인 CCTV 푸티지를 활용한다. 연못을 유유히 떠다니는 오리, 불 빛 으로 뛰어드는 벌레, 꽃잎 사이로 번지는 햇살의 장엄한 풍경, 안정주와 전소정에게 CCTV는 이 모든 과정을 추적 하고 기록한 일종의 창작 주체로 상상된다. 각각의 카메라가 전송하는 영상은 생황과 아코디언 협주곡의 긴 장 또 는 불협화음을 배경으로 기계적이고 자동적인 시각, 감각적이고 자율적인 응시를 뒤섞는다. 가 리믹스하는 풍경은 문화적 교차와 모순을 가로지르는 속도와 엔트로피의 감각이다. 나아가 이러한 이미 지는 현재와 괴리된 과거, 그 과정에서 공동체가 미처 돌보지 못한 목소리, 가치, 풍경에 관해 묻는다.

<기계 속의 유령> (2021)은 미술관을 무대로 일어나는 일종의 연극적 상황이라 할 수 있다. 눈 앞에 펼쳐진 광경 은 가설된 무대를 이루는 구조와 사물들, 그리고 그것을 비추는 CCTV와 정해진 시각에 구조 사이를 유영하는 AI 드론으로 구성되어 있다. 이는 마치 미술관이라는 신체의 표피 아래 존재하는 기관들, 즉 근육과 혈관, 장기와도 같다. 시간에 맞춰 움직이는 사물의 움직임, 이를테면 빛을 반사하고 투과하여 미술관 내부의 벽에 시각적 환영을 만들어내는 흔들리는 필름, 수직 낙하 운동으로 공간을 울리는 소리를 발생시키는 공기주머니, 안개 발생기로 투 명한 피부 아래 부피를 드러내는 누워있는 조각, 선풍기 바람에 휘날리며 역동적인 운동성을 가시화하는 선제, 작 은 생태계를 지탱하는 산소의 울림을 사운드로 증폭하는 스피커는 가시적 세계 너머의 실체를 밝힌다. 이렇듯 멈 춰있던 사물의 형태가 지닌 부피, 촉각, 소리 등의 물질성은 감각의 전이와 연속 안에서 공감각적 경험 차원의 시 공을 구축한다.

한편 이러한 현상을 관찰하는 CCTV와 AI드론의 시선은 여기에 새로운 층위의 경험을 가능하게 한다. 무대의 바 깥에서 눈앞의 현상을 지켜봐야만 하던 관객, 시선의 자유를 박탈당한 관객은 어쩔 수 없이 수동적 타자의 위치에 놓이게 된다. 하지만, 속도와 높이, 각도를 달리해 자유롭게 비행하는 기계들의 시점은 인간의 시지각적 능력을 초 월하고, 이들이 촬영하고 송출하는 이미지를 통해 우리는 구조 안, 미처 닿을 수 없는 세계로의 접근이 가능해진 다. 우리의 망막을 대신하는 이들의 렌즈가 보여주는 세계는 우리에게 익숙한 가시성의 세계 내부, 틈새를 탐험하 는 미시적 시선이다. 그러므로 기계들은 무대 위 퍼포머-구조와 사물-사이를 유영하며 이미지를 추출하고 전송하 여 시감각으로 인지할 수 있는 시공의 한계를 벗어난 어딘가로 우리를 인도하는 가이드라 할 수 있다. 이들은 인간 의 의지를 도려낸 채 일방적으로 이미지를 전달함으로 지각의 한계를 실감하게 하는 동시에 예측할 수 없는 방향 과 해석으로 새로운 길을 개척하는 레이스에 관객 스스로 작동하지 않던 다른 감각을 동원하여 개입하길 요구한다. 미술관은 오늘날 자본의 논리 안에 재편되는 미술을 스펙타클한 이미지로 치환하는 신체이며, 사물은 그 신체의 작동을 담당하는 장기이다. 그리고 장기들의 사이를 유영하는 기계의 시선은 새로운 세계의 낙관 아래 발전의 논 리로 모든 것을 수렴하는 기재이기보다는 오늘날 자본의 신화에 미시적 시선으로 균열의 시공을 확보하려는, 인간 의 시선을 매개하는 망막이라 할 수 있다. 관객과 무대 사이, 물리적 실체로서의 사물의 형상과 그 해부학적 구조 를 더없이 가벼운, 질량이 부재한 존재로 치환하는 유령은 사물-객체와 관객-주체의 전도를 꾀함으로 의지를 박탈 당한 인간의 신체에 주체성을 촉발한다.
